We're Engaged! A Christmas To Remember

December 25, 2010

Christmas being my most favorite holiday, I was awake by 4am tossing and turning in bed.  I never sleep on christmas (something I never grew out of I guess!!).  Beside me, Rick was tossing and turning but I was too excited to notice!  We had a great morning that included the usual excited hustle to get ready to go to my mom's house from Christmas breakfast.

I was trying my hardest to get myself ready fast.  With my hair still half-done (dressed also in my finest "beatles" shirt) Rick and I huddled by our Christmas tree to begin opening our presents from each other (our tradition).  Rick was going back and forth from the guest bedroom bringing in presents to me one by one.  I thought nothing of this as he always hides presents from me because I am a notorious snoop! He keeps them at his office until Christmas eve when he wraps them! I had planted myself on the ground and was having a little party opening presents and watching Rick open his.  As we finished opening our presents I just knew it was time to get my hair finished and get moving to breakfast.  Rick was trying his hardest to slow me down and get me to stand up off the ground.  He went into the guest bedroom to grab the last present, but this time he shut the door.  I thought "that's odd.".  I daydreamed that he was going to propose at that moment, but after eight years of this type of daydreaming I came back to reality (but not for long!)

Rick came out of the bedroom looking rather nervous and holding a wrapped present in one hand. "It's big...probably not a ring box." I thought to myself. Little did I know that box was empty.  He asked if I would come open the present in the guest room.  I said "why do I need to do that??"  So I slowly stood up as he walked towards me and helped me off the ground.  He wrapped his arms around me and said "you know I love you..." and the rest is a blur as I saw him reach in his pocket and saw something sooo incredibly sparkly I had to look away at first!  He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said "YES!!".  All I could say after that was "oh my god...oh my god...".

It was a great Christmas and we had great fun thinking of ways to tell our family that day! Between hiding the ring to delay the surprise, to using skype to show my sister, It was a day full of excitement.  We were exhausted by the end of the day to say the least! :o)

Here we are at the end of Christmas Day after all the celebration!
